Speed Reading for Success
In the rapidly changing world of work and business, we are having to cope with an increasing amount of reading matter, whether it is hundreds of e-mails; hundreds of essential articles we need to be aware of or hundreds of books, magazines and newsletters we need to familiarise ourselves with in order to remain connected with our educated peers.
When is the last time you tested your reading speed? According to Tony Buzan, author of "The Speed Reading Book", an average adult has the same reading speed as a Junior School child, less than 200 words per minute. This means that the time we spend reading is increasing as we are having to deal with more reading matter. Where does this time come from since we all have a finite 24 hours/day? For most of us, this extra, essential reading time, comes from time we would otherwise spend with family and friends.
However, there are techniques that can be developed for reading and comprehending much faster. According to Buzan the current reading champion, Sean Adam, has a 3,850 words per minute ability. How does your score compare with that?
